From Tamil Nadu Fields to French Perfumers: India’s Jasmine Gets a Traceability Makeover

India has always been synonymous with jasmine. But a new generation of producers is betting that the flower’s next chapter smells less like tradition — and more like a supply chain audit.

Amitié Fleur, a company founded in 2024 near Sholingur, Tamil Nadu, is positioning itself as a credible international supplier of jasmine extracts with a twist: rather than plugging into the existing spot-market model, it’s building traceability and community investment directly into its business from day one.

The big shift: The fragrance industry isn’t just asking about quality and volume anymore. It wants to know where the flowers come from, who’s harvesting them, and what the environmental footprint looks like. Proof, not promises.

Key details:

  • Cultivates both Jasminum sambac and Jasminum grandiflorum across 40 acres of family-controlled land near Sholingur — roughly three hours west of Chennai
  • Offers 100% traceable “garden flower” streams alongside market-sourced volumes, so buyers can choose their level of supply chain visibility
  • Earned ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 certifications in its first full production year (2025) and is progressing toward UEBT (Union for Ethical BioTrade) accreditation
  • Installed a 110 kWp solar power system with battery storage to cut energy dependence
  • Runs year-round livelihood programs for women workers — tailoring, sanitary napkin production, dairy support — so employment doesn’t vanish when jasmine season ends
  • 2026 portfolio spans jasmine sambac and grandiflorum concretes and absolutes, plus vetiver, lemongrass, palmarosa, and cinnamon leaf essential oils
  • VP of Europe and North America Oliver Schmidt is actively courting fragrance houses on both continents

On the horizon: European buyers are already applying due diligence expectations across all naturals — even where regulation doesn’t technically require it. Amitié Fleur’s early bet is that responsible sourcing will shift from a differentiator to a baseline requirement. Being designed for accountability from the start, rather than retrofitted for it, could prove to be the company’s sharpest competitive edge.
